Image Leaks from IMAX 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Teaser Trailer, Reveals First-Look at New Villain

Editor's Note: This article has been updated as of July 17th to include additional detail.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 15th, a former IMAX employee posted what is confirmed to be a leaked still from the upcoming "Avatar: Fire and Ash" trailer to the r/IMAX sub-Reddit. Though the image was quickly removed, it began circulating widely on the social internet. The image revealed the first-look at the Avatar franchise's new villain Varang, portrayed by Oona Chaplin.

This leak occurred mere hours after reputable insiders on X (formerly Twitter) began speculating that the "Fire and Ash" teaser was imminent- likely accompanying Marvel's "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" next Friday, July 25th. The timing of this leak alongside the relevant speculation seems to confirm our theory that a July release was the next most-likely candidate after the passing of Marvel's Thunderbolts* in May.

Less than two days later, another anonymous source leaked the full Avatar IMAX teaser to Telegram. The leak is cam-recorded as opposed to a raw file, which further suggests that it is already showing in some theaters in preparation for Fantastic Four next Friday.

Though it is unclear at this time whether the trailer will release online, or exclusively in theaters, fans can reasonably expect to have their eyes on the first Avatar: Fire and Ash teaser trailer by the end of next week.
