Kelutral Community Values
Kelutral is Home
Every member of the Kelutral.org family should feel that they have a place here. This is a central gathering place where fans can chat, learn, and share a passion for Avatar and the Na'vi language. We will cultivate an environment that members are proud to call home. Though we will have differences of opinion and heated debate, we acknowledge that there's a person on the other end of the screen who also really cares about this, even if you think they are wrong.
Kelutral is Growth
Our aim is to grow and connect the community of AVATAR fans of all stripes. We will also be vigilant in outreach- not waiting for others to come to us, but to find them where they are. This also means we will strive to meet the needs of the community and adapt to it by being open to new approaches and suggestions from membership.
Kelutral is Teamwork
Like the titular hometree, Kelutral is not one singular giant but many trees combined, woven together, supporting each other. Anybody who speaks a word of Na'vi was once helped by those who came before, and that collaborative spirit is an integral part of the Kelutral community. Any figures of leadership will work with members in a transparent manner, as they too are part of, not above, the community.
Kelutral Community Rules
Based on these values, we have the following rules in the community Discord and all official Kelutral event spaces:
1. You will remember and respect the human being on the other end of the screen.
We reject the notion that there is any value to exclusionary or demeaning language. We will drive out any attempts to create "us vs. them" rhetoric. Rather, we embrace opportunities to welcome and learn from members with different lived experiences.
Thus, the following behavior is forbidden:- Use of racial, ableist, or sexist slurs, or any language meant to demean a group of people or person
- Demeaning a minority group or "punching down"
- Insulting the intelligence or abilities of others
- Vilifying others, whether in the community or outside it
- Directing or demanding behavior from others, such as telling people to say something, stop talking, or how to feel or think.
2. You will not engage in attention-seeking or intentionally disruptive behavior, or incite inflammatory discussion.
Kelutral is not here to be an audience to you- we are a community, and expect our members to respect that. All good conversation is a two-way street, and we ask that you consider what you feed into the narrative- because that's ultimately what you'll get out of it too.
Thus, the following behavior is forbidden:- Spamming/repeatedly sending the same text, emotes, or images or sharing chain messages
- Repeated patterns of attention-seeking or trolling behavior
- Unsolicited advertising (sharing links when relevant to active conversation is okay)
- Unlabeled shock media (audio maxing, jumpscares, etc.)
- Streaming of music in voice channels (outside of the sound in video games streamed via Discord's "Go Live" feature.)
- Musical performances (playing an instrument, singing) are allowed only if agreed on by the other participants in the voice channel.
- Voice spam in audio channels (screaming, yelling, noise for the sake of noise). Please use push-to-talk or mute yourself if you are in a noisy environment!
- Excessive and repeated cursing
- Targeted cursing (i.e. "f--- you") is never called for, but reactionary cursing (i.e. "f--- yeah!", "oh s---!") is permitted within reason.
3. You will respect the public nature of community spaces.
Kelutral is a space for all kinds of people, from all over the world, in all age groups (13+ as per Discord ToS), who speak all kinds of languages. We want to maintain a great environment for our primary goals of learning and conversing, so it is asked of the community to not do things that could share misinformation, propagate negativity or harmful behaviors, or be strongly off-putting - or even put Kelutral in legal trouble.
Thus, the following behavior is forbidden:- Debates about real-life political issues and figures
- Discussions on religion and faith independent of the Na'vi/AVATAR
- Discussions on reality shifting (including encouraging the practice, or descriptions of methods) and otherkin
- Discussion, encouragement, or depiction of unlawful or violent acts or the inhumane treatment of animals
- Sharing of NSFW content, including visual or written depictions of gore, violence, excessive nudity or pornography, is forbidden in all channels (keep it PG-13)
- Sharing of pirated or leaked media under copyright protection
- Using rule-violating or otherwise offensive content in one's username, profile picture, pronouns, or bio
- Discussion of recent exciting media reveals without spoiler tags
- Sharing products of prompting generative AI (visual and written work that is at least 20% the product thereof) - work that is up to 20% the product of AI must be marked accordingly as AI-assisted content.
4. You will respect the efforts of Na'vi learners of all levels and accommodate those who are not studying Na'vi.
Kelutral is a language learning community and fan community, creating an interesting dynamic. Part of learning a language is using it among peers, but that needs to be balanced against accommodating those who want to be part of the conversation. Additionally, making mistakes is an integral part of the learning process and should be celebrated, not scolded or insulted. Any behavior or messages discouraging others from learning will not be tolerated.
Thus, the following behavior is forbidden:- Putting down others for making mistakes
- Discouraging the use or practice of the Na'vi language
- Denying requests to translate Na'vi
- Sharing text in Na'vi that is the product of prompting Large Language Models (e.g. ChatGPT)
- Suggesting or encouraging the use of LLMs/AI as a learning tool for Na'vi
- Recording Na'vi classes during Voice Chats without explicit consent.
Class attendees are required to follow per class rules laid out by the respective teacher.
Consequences
If a member fails to follow these community guidelines, they will be first issued a warning by a moderator. Depending on the situation, messages may be removed without warning. If warnings are not heeded, users will be temporarily timed out, and will be unable to access the server for a period of time and asked to re-read these rules.
Further infractions will result in a ban. This ban is either appealable/disputable (via a then-provided form) or not, depending on the nature of the infraction.
If a member arrives and immediately begins displaying offensive or trolling behavior, they may be banned without warning or procedure.
It is recommended to allow DMs from our server, in case our moderators need to send the aforementioned ban-appeal-form or contact users via our in-server moderation and support ticket system.
Additional information
- Rules can be subject to change in the future to reflect the changing nature of the fandom, and to address future concerns
- Admins and moderators have the final say on how the rules are interpreted and can also make decisions outside the rules within reason if and when needed.
