CELEBRATING 5 YEARS
OF COMMUNITY

2020 - PRESENT

In June of 2020, Kelutral breathed new life into the online Avatar fan community, forever changing the ways that Avatar fans can gather, discuss the Avatar franchise and learn Na'vi.

Now, five years later, we're about to do it again.

When Kelutral was still just an idea, the heartbeat that drove the idea was to revitalize the Na'vi Language community after a decade-long wait for Avatar: The Way of Water. We hoped to introduce the next generation of fans to a unique way to immerse themselves in a franchise that prides itself on drawing audiences in. The idea gained momentum and, in a defining moment, was brought to life by a team of passionate Na'vi language teachers and fans. Taking advantage of modern tools, social media, partnerships and outreach, Kelutral quickly grew from a seed to a fully-realized Hometree, sheltering fans from across the globe and providing a space for them to connect, engage, and share in their love for Avatar.

The path we've walked has been thrilling and humbling. We have not always gotten things right, but we have persisted and endured— learning from our communal voices and growing from hardship. The results of our trial-by-fire approach speak for themselves. From pioneering the first virtual Avatar convention, playing host to distinguished Avatar guests like Stephen Lang, Bailey Bass and more, to being featured on HBO's How to With John Wilson, Kelutral has succeeded in crafting once-in-a-lifetime experiences for the Avatar community. With Avatar: Fire and Ash coming later this year, we're only just getting started.

Even as we reflect on our history, we are looking ahead to the new voices that will discover Avatar for the first time this December. Growth like this can be challenging and uncomfortable, but it is also healthy and necessary. Like all living things, growth is an inevitable part of our future. So, we shall do the only thing we can do when faced with seasons of growth: Prepare.

As we approach our next year, Kelutral is in a transitory period. We are revitalizing our leadership, handing off stewardship to the next generation of fans and community members to continue to promote a healthy and welcoming experience. Responsibility has been consolidated and better defined to ensure that each eyktan knows their role and commitment to the community. The moderator team has been refreshed, welcoming new and active members of our Clan who can serve as beacons of our culture and warmth. We are refining the way we communicate with each other, with our community, and with the world, and as Avatar: Fire and Ash approaches, we are considering how to welcome the tide while preserving our roots.

The other way that Kelutral has consistently grown is in our ability to create new and memorable experiences for Avatar fans around the world. We are constantly exploring ways that we can better serve the Avatar fan community, and at this point in our story the two barriers that exist are age-old problems: time and money. Fundamentally, Kelutral is a fan-organization. We are not here to make a profit, so our online classes and events are and always will be free to attend. To continue to innovate and provide better experiences for fans worldwide, however, we have reached a point where we have to solve these two problems. The good news is, we think we've found an answer.

This summer, in celebration of our fifth anniversary, we will be unveiling two exciting new ways for community members to voluntarily support Kelutral: A brand-new merchandise line, and a complete overhaul of our Na'vi Me character creator. In addition, we have begun actively pursuing partnerships with donors and sponsors who can help to provide the funding we need to take our classes, educational resources and events to the next level. Paired together, we are confident that these two efforts will give Kelutral the resources needed to provide a more consistent, professional, and exciting experience across the board for our community.

In addition to these new features, we will also be hosting a number of free events throughout the week! Here are just a few of the sessions to expect:

RSVP now on our Discord and join our mailing list for more updates on Kelutral events, merch, discounts and more.

Last, but certainly not least, we want to send a sincere irayo to everyone who has supported Kelutral along the way. Be they veteran or new, eyktan or not, numeyu or 'eylan, Kelutral is nothing without the fans who give it life.

A special thank you to Josh Izzo at Lightstorm Entertainment, who has been a steadfast champion and partner since 2021; to Paul Frommer who has believed in and supported the efforts of Kelutral since the beginning; and to InfinityEnergy, whose financial support and immense humility have pushed Kelutral to greater heights. To all of our community partners and friends, AvatarArcticLife, DiscoveringPandora, BecomingNavi, Avatar Guy, gg/AVTR, and all of the Avatar cast and crew who support us on social media, ayoel ayngati kameie. Here's to many more years of Avatar community!
